Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Motörhead Edition

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Select is a good enough whiskey, but when it’s a special bottle specifically picked by the barrel by Motörhead, it’s a whole different story. Described by the Atlantic City Bottling Company (the exclusive sales rep for these 288 bottles) as “dark, oaky, but still some corn and sweetness with that signature Jack smooth charcoal smoky finish” this Motörhead bottle of Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is something that can be raised and celebrated for rock n’ roll, Lemmy or just for a good, old-fashioned cocktail. Unfortunately, this particular limited edition bottle of 288 sold out almost immediately, so keep your eyes peeled for the next release in one to two months.

17 Brilliant Life Lessons from Jeff Bridges - airows.com

Jeff Bridges is one of the most likable, fantastic, and inspiring actors to ever work in Hollywood. Here's a few wise words from the man.

1.) “Up in the morning, go to the bathroom, pee, brush your teeth, look in the mirror, and laugh at yourself. Do it every morning to start off the day, as a practice.”

2.) "Live like you're already dead, man. Have a good time. Do your best. Let it all come ripping right through you."

3.) "Most cynics are really crushed romantics: they've been hurt, they're sensitive, and their cynicism is a shell that's protecting this tiny, dear part in them that's still alive."

4.) “Always maintain a joyful mind. Appreciate the struggles as opportunities to wake up.”

5.) "It's not enough just to treat women well. We have to work to make sure all men treat women well."

6.) "If you change partners every time it gets tough or you get a little dissatisfied, then I don't think you get the richness that's available in a long-term relationship."

7.) “You’ve got to take care of yourself on the path, not just when you cross the goal line, because don’t forget, wherever you are, that’s the goal line.”

8.) "The more space and emptiness you can create in yourself, then you can let the rest of the world come in and fill you up."

9.) "As a kid, you want to be liked for who you are. You don't want to be liked for who your parents are. You don't want to get a job because of who your parents are. You want to do it on your own, with your own gifts and your own value. So, I decided to spare my kids that and not be as pro-active as my dad was."

10.) "Eating ice cream and not exercising is great. The downside is your health isn't so good."

11.) "Sticking with a marriage. That's true grit, man."

12.) "A wonderful thing my mother used to do for all her kids was called "time." Every day she would give an hour and be totally focused and do whatever they wanted to do. There was never a sense of duty about it."

13.) “If you’re going to wait to get all the information you think you need before you act, you’ll never act because there’s an infinite amount of information out there.”

14.) “A famous Japanese Zen master, Hakuun Yasutani Roshi, said that unless you can explain Zen in words that a fisherman will comprehend, you don’t know what you’re talking about. Some fifty years ago a UCLA professor told me the same thing about applied mathematics. We like to hide from the truth behind foreign-sounding words or mathematical lingo. There’s a saying: The truth is always encountered but rarely perceived. If we don’t perceive it, we can’t help ourselves and we can’t much help anyone else.”

15.) "If you open your heart, then the object of your love becomes so precious because you are so open. And that philosophy, that caring, spreads."

16.) "Of all the things my dad taught me -- it was nothing he ever said to me but I got it from observing him -- what I noticed was the joy in which he approached his work, and it was really wild. It was contagious. When you’re happy, good stuff kind of manifests. He plorked big time."

17.) "It’s like that perfection thing, trying to be that thing you’re not. You have to feel that discomfort and not try to get rid of it. Accept that aspect and get into it. Acknowledge those feelings and let them be. You are who you are."

    2015 Whiskey Advent Calender

If we’re being completely honest, the annual Drinks by the Dram Whisky Advent Calendar gives us that whole “kid on Christmas” feeling each and every year. You probably remember how advent calendars work (especially if you picked up the 2014 Whisky Advent Calendar), but if you don’t, you open a little flap in the calendar each of the 24 days before Christmas to unlock a surprise. This “grown up” version replaces tiny chocolates with 3cl samples of some fantastic whiskies. We’re not just talking fancy liquor store rewards, some of these are damn near impossible to find even if you can afford them. Invergordon 50 Year Old 1964 – Xtra Old Particular ($450/bottle). Glenfarclas 25 Year Old ($154/bottle). The Lost Distilleries Blend – Batch 6 ($450/bottle). You’re only getting samples, but the Whisky Advent Calendar is a great way to sample some incredible whisky without committing to just one expensive bottle. - coolmaterial.com
